Applications

There are many ways to use the HSM. Following are just a few suggestions:

• Part B – Networking screening or site diagnosis;
• Part B – Effectiveness of safety improvements;
• Part C or D – Design exceptions;
• Part C or D – Corridor study to identify the safety impacts of different cross sections; and
• Part D – catalogue of crash modification factors.

The HSM can also be used to determine the safety impacts when making mobility or maintenance changes or when paving the road.
